Tuesday Catch Up

Hi all,

Well, I don’t know about where you are, but November has definitely hit here and it’s bleedin’ freezing! Even the Christmas lights have gone on this week so we must be into mid-winter *sighs* At least it looks twinkly! It’s been a bit of an up and down week. My sort of surrogate gran passed last week (used to be my gran-in-law but we’ve still stayed in touch) the funeral is tomorrow so will be a sad day.

2016-05-11-1462971004-479389-writerWriting-wise, it’s very much all-go. I’m thinking I may have to admit defeat on Nano – I’m currently just under 10k behind and with funeral tomorrow and family coming to visit at weekend it’s not looking very likely I’ll get back on target. (I’m still looking forward to them coming though – don’t worry Mum!). I’m not getting too stressed over it, I managed to get a standalone finished, some extra words on book 3 in my wolfie series and hopefully will get a Christmassy sort finished this week then can get it out in time lol. It’s angel-themed and I have some fab stock images to play with for a cover – can’t wait for you to see! I’ve also finally got back my first edits on book 2 in my wolves series. I think I’m probably going to have to push release back to January now – but hey, I have a Christmas book for you in the meantime 😉

Hope all the rest of you Nano-ers are doing better than me 🙂 Take care x

Thursday Teaser – Paranormal Romance

Hi all,

Hope your week’s doing well. I may have been slightly distracted on my original Nano project into a Christmas story – but hey, it’s almost that time of year. Everyone loves Christmas stories right? *shifty look* Anyway, I’m enjoying it and it won’t be too long so hopefully can get it finished off soon and then out in time 🙂

In the meantime thoufh, I’m sharing a teaser from my next wolves book, which I promise will be out soon! I know I seem to have been saying that for a while but edits have taken longer than I thought they would and I don’t want it going out until it’s right. In the meantime though, hope you enjoy this 🙂

cottageQuickening her pace, she headed down the winding track towards the main village. The light was fading fast, casting deep and slightly creepy shadows, while every rustle in the trees on either side made her start. It’s just your imagination, just your imagination. Or was it? The rustling to her left was getting louder and steadier. Her heart started pounding as she broke into a half jog. The noises were closer though, effortlessly keeping up with her. Sweat broke out, trickling down her back and stinging her eyes. Oh God, what the hell had she been thinking heading out in the dark on her own?

Katya. The voice in her head was deep, familiar and edged in concern

Niko? Relief made her not only telepathically reach out towards him – something she’d never done before – but stop in her tracks. Thank God! He would find her and…

wolves-and-werewolves-fire-and-ice-the-wolf-pack-23828159-240-320A huge, furry shape sprang from the shadows, heading straight for her. She screamed in terror as it knocked her down. There was a glimpse of bared teeth, hot breath on her face. Frantically she began scrabbling backwards, another shriek escaping her when a firm hand gripped her arm, dragging her to her feet. A human hand. For an instant she thought Niko had somehow magically found her, but this man was taller, thinner, with shaggy light brown hair. He was human though.

Please,” she gasped, “you have to help me.”

He smiled at her and his eyes glowed in the faint moonlight. Fuck, not so human. She tried to run but the hand tightened on her arm, she was dragged back against him, a strong-smelling cloth pressed against her face. Her struggles slowed and darkness crept in.

Take care x

Tuesday Catch Up

Hi all,

Another week is upon us – please no one tell me how many until Christmas lol. I think we can 111411_nanowrimo-702x1024-670x977agree though this year is speeding by! How are my fellow Nano-ers getting on? I will admit I’m lagging behind a bit as we hit the halfway mark. Still, I’m trying not to get too worked up over it – I have more words than I did at the start of the month so that’s a win already, right?

I know some people get themselves rather stressed over Nano and sometimes I wonder how productive that is. I do like the little push it gives and the motivation, but at the same time, November is a rather cold, dark and miserable month at the best of times (well, it certainly is here at the moment!) so I think it’s important to try and make sure we have a bit of relaxation and TLC as well 😉 Of course, I should practice what I preach a lot more lol!

fantastic-beasts-where-find-them-movie-2016-redmayneSpeaking of relaxation… does anyone have any fun plans for the week? I’m very excited that Fantastic Beasts is out on Friday – and am trying very hard to restrain from the midnight showing when I know I have work the next day. Wish me luck!

Take care x

My Sexy Saturday – 12/11/16

Hi all,

Yay, it’s weekend and after a rather stressful week all round, I think we’re all needing it. I’m excited to be back taking part in the My Sexy Saturday blog hop, and since the theme this week is ‘Sexy in the Sky’ I thought i’d share a wee excerpt from one of my latest WIPs. This is my deathly allergic witch and cursed vampire novella – and woot, it was just finished last weekend. Well, the first draft anyway, lots of edits to go yet 😉 Hope tou enjoy though x

“You have got to be kidding me?” The look on his face would have been almost amusing if Libby wasn’t already a little worried herself.

56000cae3cf8306e57939fef860e1c4a“Don’t be such a baby.” She patted the broom in what she hoped was a reassuring manner.

Okay, so maybe it was a slightly older mode. Older in this case meaning ancient and ever so mildly on the decrepit side, but these things were built to last. This had actually been her aunt’s, and a couple of fading stickers on the worn wood at the back hinted at the kind of globe-trotting life Libby had never had. If she was perfectly honest then she’d never actually taken it any further than Cornwall on a mini-break but, really, how much harder could it be to take it that little hop further to Northern Africa?

Venn was still staring her with that ‘hell no’ expression stamped all over his handsome face.

“Look, it’s not like we have a huge amount of options here. Every commercial airline in the country has supernatural security checks now – that would pick you up straight away. Do you have enough power to get yourself there on your own?”

She was 99% sure that he didn’t. She also know that he was going to resent to hell her mentioning it. She’d already gathered that most of his powers had been diminished since he’d been cursed. The smallest surge of power gave him a drawn look, tight lines round his mouth. The amount of power needed to get a body that distance would be well beyond him right now. As she’d expected his face closed down, anger and resentment flashing in those blue eyes.

“No,” his voice was clipped and she saw the effort it took to admit that.

“So, this is the best option. I’m a great driver – honest!”

A long drawn out sigh escaped him. “It appears I have little choice in the matter.”

She flashed him a grin. “That’s the spirit!”

She may be fibbing but shhhh 🙂 Don’t forget to check out the rest of the fab authors taking part today – the link is here

Have a great weekend x

Tuesday Catch Up

Hi all,

Well, I’m running a day behind here – this week has been chaotic already, and it’s only Tuesday lol! indexTo all my American friends – I hope you’re managing to get out to vote and good luck with it. I saw a lovely article this morning showing people at the grave of America suffragette Susan B Anthony and placing their ‘I voted’ stickers on the gravestone. I’m aware it’s been a difficult election, such a lot of nastiness and strong feeling on both sides but sometimes an image like this can make us think how important democracy is and how we should never take it for granted. I know a lot of people are disillusioned with both sides – but I do hope you manage to vote anyway and that at the end of the day people will be able to accept the result (whatever it may be) and start to move forward.

Anyway, I feel that’s maybe getting a preachy and that’s the last thing I want to be 🙂 How are those of you doing Nano getting on? Our first week is done – hope you’re on target! I am surprisingly still on track, I’m usually slipping behind by this point, but we shall see how it goes. If I can have book 2 released and book 3 written by the end of the year then I’ll be pretty happy 🙂

14937337_1613969382233268_602095235217030311_nSpeaking of happy (or not in this case lol) I have some traumatised kitties today. I am apparently a horrible monster for daring to take them to the vets (they had an itty, bitty jab and their nails clipped) – they made their displeasure fairly strongly known so I may be covered in plasters today *sighs* I do appreciate the irony of them having their nails cut after they scratched me to shreds. It’s a good job they’re sodding cute 😉

Hope you have a good week. Take care x

Friday Teaser – Paranormal Romance

Hi all,

Well, it’s almost weekend – yay! Hope you have some fun plans – be that fireworks, bonfires, or just a chance to relax. Nano is off to a good start here, I’m actually on schedule for once – we’ll see how long it lasts 😉 New words are always good though. On that note, I thought I would share with you a wee teaser from my Nano novel – which will be the third in my wolves series and is tentatively titled Scarlett Prophecy. If you’ve read my earlier books, this is Sebastian’s story. I just can’t resist trying to redeem a villain lol! Since this is Nano, please bear in the mind this is unedited – hope you enjoy 🙂

red and wolfSebastian paced the small, bare cell. Four long strides length-wise, five width-wise. It was reasonably comfortably, God knows he’d been in worse places, but that didn’t take away from the fact that it was a cell. He couldn’t abide being contained. There was a quiet tread of footsteps outside and he forced himself to sit on the hard single bed and school his face into the calm, contained look he was known for. It wouldn’t do to let his captors know they were getting to him. The footsteps passed by though and after a brief pause he resumed the pacing. The cell was plain, thick stone walls, the bed with a light blanket, a metal urinal in the corner and that was about it. Nothing he could use, nothing that could be a possible weapon. A tiny window was set near the roof, he had to stand on the bed to see out the bottom and then there was nothing to see but a wall opposite. If he led on the bed he could look up at the sky through the thick bars – but that was depressing so he would rather pace.

A frown crossed his brow. Captured was an unacceptable state of affairs, and he still wasn’t entirely sure how it had come to this. He had been going to die, had been fully prepared for it. He should have died, it was something he accepted with his lifestyle and God knows he had little enough to live for.

He paused again, his sharp ears picking up the soft tread of footsteps again and this time he instinctively knew – it was her. He sat on the bed again, waiting with an outward patience he didn’t feel. The door swung inwards and he saw the guard first. It was the large blonde one today, his eyes sharply scanning the room and his jaw tightening as he gazed at Sebastian with thinly veiled distaste. Sebastian gazed calmly back, he didn’t give a crap what the man thought about him. If they were in the field he would kill him without a second thought and he had no doubt the man would do the same to him. That was almost as it should be and he shared the man’s distaste of his captivity. Then the man stepped aside and she came in.

cropped-wolf-eyes.jpeg

It took all he had to hide his emotions now. Sophie. That was her name, but he knew precious little else about her. Yet it was down to her that he was. All down to her that he wasn’t dead now. The she-wolf monster had been going for him, he had seen the killing intent in her eyes, the aim for the throat and then this woman had stopped her. The wolves had seemed as shocked as him when she’d shouted for them to stop, but they had. He didn’t know why, she seemed to have no particular rank, but they had bowed to her will and so now he was here. Trapped in this cell because now they hadn’t killed him they didn’t seem to know what to do about him. And her, she came every day, without fail. He eyed her, telling himself that it was because one of the first rules of battle was to know your enemy, but really because he just couldn’t seem to help himself.

Better get back to it! Take care x

Tuesday Catch Up – Who’s Doing Nano?

Hi all,

Hope you’ve all had a fab Halloween, lots of spooks and candy 😉 I managed to get to some fun story-telling sessions, plus it’s an excuse to watch all my favourite Halloween movies. Anyway, we’re back to reality and into November now (eek, no one mention Christmas yet!) and November for a lot of us means Nano. In case you don’t know, Nano stands for National Novel Writing Month, where thousands of writers, both brand new and established, attempt to write a novel (well, 50,000 words at least) in the month of November. It’s fun, exciting, stressful and a little bit mad!

111411_nanowrimo-702x1024-670x977So, who’s joining in this year? Are you off to a flying start or (like me) still trying to catch up on all the prep things you should have done last week. Please make me feel better and say it’s the latter 🙂 I do have slightly mixed feelings about Nano, for some people it’s a lot of pressure and that mad rush can be stressful, but I do find it useful for a bit of a kickstart and to get back into the habit of writing every day – especially if life has rather been getting in the way lately (and let’s face it, it has a nasty habit of doing that!).

Personally, I think it’s so important to use Nano for what YOU can get out of it. It’s all too easy to look at other people and feel discouraged but it’s not a competition – honest! If you miss some days – so what, you can catch up and sometimes you need a break. If you’re not going to make 50k – so what, if you have more words that you did at the start of the month then it’s still a win. If all your ‘writing buddies’ are speeding along and you feel like you’re lagging behind – so what, we all have different speeds and styles. Who’s to say your 30k might not be twice as good as someone else’s 60k? Take the good things – the motivation, the team spirit, the community support – and use it to help you (and of course, don’t forget to give a bit of that support back again!).

2016-05-11-1462971004-479389-writer

I also think the main thing – and the thing I see so many enthusiastic Nano-ers seeming to slip up at. At the end of November make sure you DO SOMETHING with all these lovely, shiny new words you have 🙂 I’m winterdusk on the Nano site, so do feel free to add me as a writing buddy if you are joining in – and the best of luck with it!

Take care x

Monday Catch Up

Hi all,

12321110_1494645387506651_7099576762286536610_nWell, it’s Monday again and we’re creeping closer to Christmas! I must admit am still rather under the weather and haven’t been able to concentrate enough to get any new writing done. I’m consoling myself with getting some blog and social media updating done and have finally made a new cover for my Christmas story, which is going to come out this week (watch this space!). I must admit though after having a very productive November I’m feeling a little disappointed that not much seems to be getting done at the moment.

12309899_1494437080860815_899388326953664366_o

Still, these things happen and I’m thinking that since Christmas things will be coming up soon anyway, I might be better just writing this month off in terms of new writing and getting some planning in place for January. Ah well!

I hope you’re all having a more productive December, and getting into the holiday mood. I do love Edinburgh at this time of year, the markets, the fair and the historic streets lit up are just lovely – so I thought I’d share a few piccies with you 🙂

Take care x

Monday Catch Up

Hi all,

Happy St Andrews Day!

happystandrewsFor those of you on the last day of Nano, good luck and happy writing. And for those who may have started Nano and are not going to make the ‘goal’ I’ll echo what I’ve been saying to a few friends on facebook today – if you’ve written this month, and especially if you’ve written more than you normally would have, then I’d consider it a win 🙂 I knew there was no way I was going to make 50k this month, but I have some new words down and I’ve got through a lot of writing-related tasks (some I must admit that have been hanging around for a while) so I’m quite happy with my productive November.

promo graphicFor a wee roundup – I organised and released a charity anthology, Duty Honor Desire, with all proceeds to Help for Heroes.

Saturday Sexy Teaser – 28/11/15

Hi all,

Happy weekend, if you were out shopping yesterday for Black Friday I hope you got some bargains and weren’t too frazzled by the crowds 🙂 It seems like the usual Sexy Saturday blog hop might be having a Thanksgiving break – but I thought I could share a wee teaser with you anyway! This is from Love Awakened, which is my new free read prequel.

Prequel Cover 3Emma was rapidly starting to lose her buzz. Was it too much to ask to be able to dance on her own without half a dozen jerks insisting that she must need company? This one seemed particularly persistent.

“I’m sorry, I’m really not interested” She tried more firmly, and this time turned her back on him. Surely that would give the hint?

Instead, she felt rough hands on her butt. Seriously? She whirled round, sparks flying from her fingers and singeing the air around them both. The ass-hat took an unsteady step back, his hands waving in the air as though trying to swat a fly.

“What the fuck?” One of the sparks caught his hand, and he snatched it back to his chest, staring at it confusion and then rising anger. “Goddamn bitch burned me.”

He stepped forward again, face contorted with drunken rage. Emma took a deep breath, called up her magic, and then the guy was suddenly on his butt in the middle of the dance floor. She blinked. Okay, that hadn’t been her.

Then Garret was taking her arm and moving them to the other side of the polished wooden floor. He turned her away from the small group gathered around the floored guy, and began moving them to the music. She stared up at him in surprise, unsure what to say.

“I thought you didn’t want to dance.”

He sighed. “I didn’t, but you obviously can’t stay out of trouble.”

“Me? I was only sticking up for myself, and you seem to be the one putting people on the floor.”

He grunted. “I didn’t say he didn’t deserved it, but you were… inciting.”

“I was what? How exactly?”

His hands waved around randomly. “Hips, twirling… ness. Look, are you wanting to dance or not?”

She could feel the grin spreading across her face, but she simply nodded and let him pull her into his arms. For someone who claimed they didn’t dance, he moved well, and as the music switched to a slower song she wrapped her arms around his neck and let her body sway in time with his. The world around them seemed to drift away as she relaxed against him, resting her head on his chest, she could hear his heartbeat under her ear. Breathing in, she let his scent surround her, a unique blend of sandalwood and musk, with an underlying thread that was just sweat and skin and male. Every hard muscle seemed to mould against her… oooh, including a certain extra hard part of his anatomy that seemed to be pressing against her stomach. Things were definitely looking up – literally! A sly grin curved her lips as she deliberately rubbed against him.

His breath exhaled on a hiss as he stiffly moved back from her. Frowning slightly, she tilted back her head to look up at him. His deep brown eyes burned into her, she could see the banked desire there. Rising up on tiptoe, she did what she’d wanted to do since pretty much the first moment she’d seen him, half-concussed in a graveyard, and kissed him.

You can get it free at Smashwords now:
