Wednesday WIP

Hi all,

Happy Hump Day 😉 Hope your week’s going well so far. I’ve been a busy bee on the writing front – which is always fun. Speaking of, to get us over the mid-week slump I’m sharing an excerpt from my WIP. Hope you enjoy!

“Whared and wolft the hell was that all about?”

She was actually kind of adorable when she tried to act tough. Not that he was quite stupid enough to say that. Not when she was already glaring at him. How the hell did he end up in these situations, apparently always trying to do the right thing got you nowhere fast.

“I’m waiting.” She snapped.

Yeah, think. He could do this.

“Erm, that was Carlos. He’s kinda an ass.” He trailed off helplessly.

To his surprise her lips curved into a smile. “Believe it or not, I got that part. What I want to know is why he’s coming round here wanting to see me.”

“I honestly couldn’t say for sure.”

“Guess.” Her eyes were sharp. Yeah he wasn’t getting out of this one. He tried to think how to explain without giving away anything he couldn’t.

“If I had to hazard a guess… look, this is a small village, we’re out of the way, isolated. There are a lot of young men and not a lot of young women. I guess word got around that Natalia had a beautiful woman visiting with her, and Carlos thought he would try his luck.”

That was slightly close to the truth, just with a few minor furry points missing. She was staring at him, head tilted to one side as though trying to decide whether to believe him or not. Her brow furrowed.

“It seems a bit ridiculous. You’re telling me he just thought he could show up and try it on with me?”

Niko shrugged.

“And… oh crap, he was pissed because he thought you and I…” She glared at him.

He flung his hands up. “Hey, I didn’t say anything to him. It’s not my fault he drew conclusions.”

Her eyes narrowed. “I didn’t see you correcting him either.”

“Because I wanted him to go.”

“If you’re thinking that because we… erm, that because last night, we…” she trailed off, an adorable flush rising in her cheeks.

He steeled his heart. “Last night was a mistake.”

She nodded a little too quickly. Always good for a man’s ego. “Damn right it was.”

“So, we’re agreed.”
