Hi all,
I’m really enjoying this challenge so far, has been fun visiting new blogs and great to see lots of new people dropping by here! Anyway, we’re on the letter H and let’s face it you can’t write romance without having a hero đ
I must admit to a soft spot for the ‘dark and tortured’ hero but as a romance writer quite frankly I think if you don’t fall a little bit in love with each of your heroes then you’re not writing them right! If you don’t love them, and root for them, cry over them and cheer for them, swoon a wee bit over them and be just the teeniest bit jealous of your own heroine- well, how can you expect anyone else to?
So, with that in mind I thought I’d share an excerpt from my current WIP and therefore my current ‘mind candy’ (hmm, I think I made up a word there, but hey it might catch on!). Let me know what you think – and what you look for in your own hero? đ
The water did look calm, she thought as she eyed it up. âIs it safe for swimming?â
âSure, I used to come here as a kid to swim.â
She shot him a quick glance at that, it was hard to imagine him as an innocent child. He grinned back at her as though he knew exactly what she thinking — which quite frankly shouldnât surprise her after today but she wasnât going to go there right now.
âLook, if youâre that bothered leave your underwear on. Itâs a warm day youâll dry out afterwards.â
Really, that wasnât much different to a bikini was it, so surely there couldnât be any harm in that? She found herself nodding before she thought better of it and he jumped up, reaching down a hand to tug her to her feet as well. A half smile tugged at her lips, it might be a bit chauvinistic, even old-fashioned, but she liked the little gestures he made like that. Then he pulled his shirt over his head and she stopped breathing.
His body was like something out of a magazine, or like the Greek statues at the museums sheâd been to for tedious fundraisers. Bronzed skin covered sculpted muscles with a dusting of hair leading down into his pants — which, oh Christ, were coming off as well! She closed her eyes a moment, and then couldnât help herself and had to peek. Okay, so much for wondering whether he was going to keep his underwear on as he wasnât wearing any. He seemed completely comfortable in his nakedness, and when he bent over to neatly place his clothes on the rock she had to clench her hands to restrain from reaching out to that tight ass. Jeez, you could market that! He turned back to meet her gaze and she felt her cheeks flame at the knowing amusement in his eyes. Before her fuddled brain could even start to think of something to say, he leaned forwards and brushed a quick, hard kiss across her lips.
âDonât worry, you have the exact same effect on me,â he whispered to her and then released her and stepped back. âSee you in there,â he told her with a grin, before turning and jumping off the rock straight into the shining water.
Oh and because I realised there’s no piccies today let’s have a wee bit of ‘hero’ eye candy đ
