Hi all,
Well, it’s Sunday, hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. I know mine is getting better because I have the fab Ginger Ring dropping in for a chat, and to tell us all about her new release, The Gangster’s Woman.
Welcome Ginger, it’s great having you here. So, let’s start with you telling us a bit about yourself.
I’m an eclectic, hat-loving Midwestern girl with a weakness for cheese, dark chocolate, and the Green Bay Packers. I love reading, playing with my cats, watching great movies, and I have a quirky sense of humor. Publishing a book has been a lifelong dream of mine. My heroines are classy, sassy and in search of love and adventure. When I’m not tracking down old gangster haunts or stopping at historical landmarks, you can find me on the backwaters of the Mississippi River fishing with my husband.
That sounds like a fabulous place to live – am getting jealous. Was there a specific moment where you first knew that you wanted to be a writer?
I have always wanted to be a writer but it wasn’t until I entered a writing contest a few years ago and got great feedback that I decided to go for it.
Sometimes it’s just that bit of outside encouragement that give you a push, right? Do you have a particular writing routine, or any special rituals?
Not really. I usually write on the weekends and I try to listen to the same sound track of music or music from the era that I am writing.
Tell us about the genre you write in, and what drew you to it.
I have done contemporary but the gangster trilogy is from the 20’s, 30’s and 1950. I love the style and history of those eras.
Ooh, me too, it would be a wonderful period to step back into. Are there any particular authors or books that have really inspired you?
I have always loved LaVryle Spencer. She is a true storyteller and I have enjoyed all her books. Recently I have been reading Brenda Novak and Mary Burton as I hope to write suspense someday.
I remember reading LaVryle Spencer when I was first getting in romance, I was probably only a teenager but I really enjoyed the deeper stories as compared to what I suppose you would class as more ‘bodice-rippers’ lol. What five things could you never do without?
A home, my husband, my kindle, food, and my car.
I think that’s the essentials, right? 😉 So, tell us a bit about your new release.
The Gangster’s Woman is the second book in a trilogy. It takes place back in the 1930s. Our hero has been searching for a woman for a long time and she is not what he expected to find.
Ooh, you don’t seem to see a lot of 1930s set stories, I’m intrigued already! Where did your inspiration for it come from?
I heard about a painting of a woman that hangs above the fireplace at an old gangster haunt in Madison. I visited there and decided that that woman needed a story and she became the gangster’s woman.
That sounds fun, I do love imagining the stories behind real-life items and history. What did you find most enjoyable about writing it?
Creating a story that I always wanted to read.
What was the hardest part about writing it?
Actually sitting down and writing.
Lol, true that does tend to be the killer! Who’s your favourite character in it? (I know, I know, favouritism!)
I like Michael. He is very set in his ways and meeting Eryn turns his life upside down.
Hehe, I do like to see a man being kept on his toes. So, if we’re not convinced already, why should we run out and buy it right now? 🙂
Why should we run out and buy it right now? J Because it is probably different than anything else you have read before and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did creating it.
Well, if you’re wanting to know more, the book details are here:
Blurb
Now that prohibition was over, FBI agent Michael Flynn hoped to enjoy the quiet life and a chance to finally concentrate on finding his best friend’s sister. He’d been in love with her since he first laid eyes on her picture. Unfortunately, the more he searched the more he realized she wasn’t just missing. Eryn was hiding from one of the most notorious gangsters around. One who wouldn’t rest until he knew she was dead.
Eryn O’Malley had been moving around for years, doing whatever legal, or illegal job she could find to survive. No time for romance or a normal life. A one night stand with a handsome man at the county fair seemed like just the ticket to escape for a moment from her troubled life. However, finding out he was a G-man wasn’t part of the plan. Now he was on her trail. Whether to arrest or rescue her, she wasn’t sure, and she couldn’t wait around to find out. If he caught her, would he forgive her checkered past or would he always think of her as the gangster’s woman?
