Hi all,
Hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas! I’m travelling back home today after visiting family (well, hopefully anyway, we’ve had bad flooding down here so fingers crossed it doesn’t mess up the trains!) but I was lucky enough to take some time out to chat to the fab Ember Leigh about her new release.
Welcome Ember, and thanks so much for taking time out over the festive period to talk to us 🙂 So, let’s start with you telling us a bit about yourself.
My name is Ember Leigh—erotic romance author with a penchant for TRAVEL! I think that’s really all anyone needs to know about me. I have a lot of trouble sitting still.
Hehe, I do know that feeling! Was there a specific moment where you first knew that you wanted to be a writer?
Since my earliest days, I’ve known I would be an author! I don’t know why it sprang forth, it just did. My mother and grandmother are also writers, so I think I come by it honestly. As of age 9, I had it set in my head that I was a writer, and that was that.
Aww, that’s lovely to have the family history of writing. Do you have a particular writing routine, or any special rituals?
Pfff—I WISH I had a writing routine! I try to, at least. But really, what happens is I try to work on writing-related tasks whenever I can, like blogging, editing, revising, etc. The actual first-draft-novel-writing tends to come in unpredictable spurts—and I just have to hold on to the reins and let the words pour out!
Hmm, that sounds worryingly familar 😉 Tell us about the genre you write in, and what drew you to it.
Erotic romance, baby! Within that, however, I’m also including sub-genres—regular adult contemporary, NA, even suspense. But always with the erotic element. I don’t know why I was drawn to it. Probably has something to do with all the fan fiction I read back in the late 90’s…that stuff could get pretty explicit.
I do seem to recall something of the sort *gets the fan out* Perhaps we should move on lol! What five things could you never do without?
1. My husband (wait, I guess he’s not a thing…oh well, I’m keeping it). 2. My day planner. 3. Red Wine (preferably South American). 4. My yoga mat. 5. My library!
Yup, can’t manage without a library 🙂 Speaking of which, tell us a bit about your new release.
It’s “Turkish Delight”, which is book #3 of my travel-themed short story series, Erotic Destinations. This book follows Jenna in Miami, where she works as an assistant on the set of a reality dance competition. One of the guests for the new season is Kadir, a sexy Turkish soap opera. Once he lands in Miami, all sorts of sparks fly!
Ooh, sounds interesting. Where did your inspiration for it come from?
Watching a reality dance competition in Argentina this summer, when my husband and I were visiting his family. Watching television in Spanish allows me to view the action on the screen in a different way. I don’t know if it’s because I only understand 85% of the crazy-fast Argentinian Spanish, or if it’s because I’m culturally removed. Either way, I was daydreaming a little while this particular show was on and, voila! Turkish Delight was born!
It’s always fun when something sparks that idea! What did you find most enjoyable about writing it?
The glitz and luxury of celebrities in Miami!
Oh, yes please! And what was the hardest part about writing it?
Keeping it to a short story! I mean, short stories are always hard for me—it seems like I’m perpetually destined to be ONLY a novelist. The characters in this one really wanted me to keep writing, though. I might revisit them in a future installment, who knows?
It’s always nice when the characters call you back. So, in case we’re not convinced already, why should we run out and buy it right now?
Because of these three reasons: Miami, steamy, and $0.99!
Well, I think it’s definitely going on my reading list 🙂 Here’s the details:
Blurb
In the reality TV business, everyone is either a hottie or horny. When Turkish soap opera star Kadir shows up in Miami as a contestant on the dance show, Jenna is entranced. She’s made it a point to never go there with any of the celebrities she mingles with on a daily basis…but there’s something about Kadir that makes her second-guess her bottom-line. With so many women clawing for his attention, Jenna wants no part of the hullabaloo…but tasting this Turkish Delight might be worth bending the rules just once.
