Hi all,
Hope you’re having a fun and relaxing Sunday! Now, as you may know I usually do promo posts on a Sunday so since this week was free I’m running a little behind (nothing new there lol). I’ve been starting with some Word of the Day posts this week on Twitter – so I thought I might share some of my favourites with you. As readers or writers we all love words, but it can be all too easy to get stuck in the same set vocabulary – and while I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that, sometimes it’s nice to check out some words you might not normally use. Plus, it’s interesting to find words that describe some of those feelings and states of mind that you might never have know there was a single word for! I find it fascinating – so really hope you enjoy π
Logolepsy – an obsession with words.
(think we can all relate to this one)
Paracosm – a detailed and prolonged imaginary world created by a child, that can include humans, animals or alien creatures.
(hmm, obviously I never grew out of this π )
Chimerical – created by unchecked imagination; fantastically visionary or highly probable.
(interestingly enough, I had heard of chimera as the mythical creature but wasn’t sure on the original adjective it came from)
Tristful – deeply yet romantically melancholy.
(this makes me think of gothic novels and beautiful poetry)
Hypergraphica – an overwhelming urge to write.
(yup, frequently π )
And my favourite….
Nefelibata – ‘cloud-walker’; one who lives in the clouds of their own imagination or dreams, one who does not obey the conventions of society, literature or art.
I would love to think I’m a cloud-walker – anyone else? π
Take care x
