Hi all,
Hope you’ve all got a fun Sunday planned. Mine is off to a great start with the fab Monica Corwin dropping in for a visit. She’s chatting about her new release, On a White Horse, which is part of her Revelations series. The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are actually horsewomen living on Earth – and if you’re not intrigued already then what’s wrong with you? 😉
Thanks for being here, Monica. So, let’s start with you telling us a bit about yourself.
Let’s see…I’m a single mother of a toddler. I work full time as a cybercrime analyst and write books in the blinding seconds I can spare between the two. I have more typewriters than some people have ever seen and I own more books on King Arthur than is probably strictly necessary.
Oh,I don’t know, can you really ever have too many books on a good topic? Was there a specific moment where you first knew that you wanted to be a writer?
Not really. One day I just starting writing and then YEARS later I submitted my first piece to publish. It wasn’t so much a moment as a journey toward it. I’ve always written in journals, short stories, poems…whatever. But the first time I took on the challenge of writing an entire book I knew it was all I’d ever want to do.
Yup, I do remember that moment of clarity 🙂 Do you have a particular writing routine, or any special rituals?
Nope. I usually can’t write much at home before 9pm. One because of my daughter and two because my brain is just not willing before then. If I go to a coffee shop during the day I can usually get some writing done there.
Definitely another night owl here – though how you then presumably then get up early with the wee one is beyond me lol. Tell us about the genre you write in, and what drew you to it.
I write paranormal romance. I love supernatural creatures and the idea of a world beyond our own knowledge and sometimes comprehension.
Me too! Are there any particular authors or books that have really inspired you?
Anyone who sits down and finishes a book inspires me. But authors that have influenced my work are Megan Hart, Jacqueline Carey, Kresley Cole, Saskia Walker, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Karen Harbaugh, and I’m sure so many others.
What five things could you never do without?
My daughter, my dog, my favorite typewriter, my phone, coffee.
Yup, caffeine always makes my list as well! I get nothing done without it. Speaking of which, tell us a bit about your new release.
Well this is the second book in the Revelations series that follows the four horsemen of the apocalypse (who are actually women) in their quest for a human existence. The second book focuses on Bianca, the horsemen of Conquest. She is having problems with her controlling power wanted to overtake her so she seeks an alternative at The Underground, a sex club.
Ooh, definitely sounds interesting. Where did your inspiration for it come from?
Well my friend and I were throwing ideas at each other and we came up with the series premise. As for the idea for this book it was fun to play with conquest and her unable to control that ability. My friend Jen Bradlee gave a little inspiration for her too.
What did you find most enjoyable about writing it?
I loved Gwyn. He sort of showed up one day, without any forethought or planning and I adore him. He is sassy, sexy, and a little bit insane.
Hehe, sounds like a fun combination 🙂 What was the hardest part about writing it?
Bianca. She does not submit easily, even to me. She fought me through the end. It took a lot longer to get through edits because of her.
Oh God, I hate it when you have to drag things out of your characters kicking and screaming lol! Who’s your favourite character in it? (I know, I know, favouritism!)
Gwyn as I mentioned before. I’m also sort of in love with Hades…but everyone might be by now.
Intrigued 😉 Just in case anyone isn’t convinced yet, why should we run out and buy it right now?
Because Bianca will send hellhounds to hunt you down and force you if you don’t 😉 Just kidding. This book is a unique premise and if you want something paranormal but something you haven’t seen before, this is your series.
Hehe, well we don’t want the hellhounds calling! So, check out the book details here:
Blurb
Victor Brandt has a secret. As a new resident to New York, he goes out in search of diversion, and he finds it behind a red door. The Underworld embraces him, and soon he realizes he’s going back night after night just to see Mistress Lethe: a Dominatrix so demanding she will satisfy her submissive into forgetting their own name before stealing her pleasure. But soon Mistress Lethe draws Victor into her world, and he realizes it’s a lot larger than he thought.
Bianca’s coffee business is booming, but her love life is lacking. With each step her friends—the other three horsemen of the apocalypse—take toward happiness, she holds herself back. As visions of the future threaten everything the horsemen have built, Bianca finds a man who sees all of her: the light and the dark, and for a little while she becomes Mistress Lethe, a simple woman and the embodiment of Conquest. But fate plays cruel jokes, and after only a short time with Victor she is confronted with a decision that can save the world but cost her the first man that’s ever made her want to be human.
When a mysterious stranger arrives bearing ill omens, Bianca wonders if she can keep together her motley crew in order to save the world. Or will the threesome’s tangled emotions usher in the apocalypse? Come and see.
