Tuesday Catch Up

Hi all,

Hope your week is off to a good start. I’m a day late with this but hopefully you will forgive me! It’s been a busy week. Have just got back from the RNA Conference, which was a lovely weekend, but def a bit on the exhausting side lol. Don’t think I’ve ever been in a building with so many other authors, so for an introvert like me was definitely a bit on the intimidating side.

2016-05-11-1462971004-479389-writerI was reminded of several years ago when I went to a local crime authors panel. One of the main speakers said something about how crime writers were a great community – unlike some other genres like romance writers! Well, I think all I can say to that is that she obviously didn’t know many romance writers. Being a conference first-timer meant I got a little sparkly flower on my badge so people were ‘extra-nice’ to me, but I think people were just generally lovely. All you had to do was stand near someone for them to start chatting to you, sitting at a table with a group of strangers was ‘the norm’ and everyone was happy to share their experience and tips with you.

psychic3A lot of great panels and talks, with some really helpful information, and I’m already thinking how I can translate some of it into my writing and marketing plan. I also had an industry appointment with Harlequin/M&B, and while I was aware going in that the people I was talking to didn’t really deal with the specific ‘line’ I would be suitable for, they were very positive about the story and encouraged me to submit to the relevant people.

Overall, was a really lovely time. Being a writer can often be a solitary occupation, even with the wonderful connections you can make online, so was definitely a new experience to be with so many others. Hopefully can make it back again, but for now little introvert me needs to hide in the house and recharge for a few days 🙂

Have a great week. Take care x
